Chapter 3 - The Groom's Secret
I pulled back from Julian, instantly shifting from a proud aunt to a military commander.
I kept my smile bright and steady for the cameras flashing around us.
Through clenched teeth, I asked him exactly who wanted Sarah dead.
Julian quickly pretended to pose for a photograph while whispering the terrifying details.
He explained that Sarah was not just a corporate lawyer like he had told the family.
She was actually an undercover intelligence analyst who had been investigating Conrad and Damian's international shipping company.
Julian confessed that he had accidentally discovered shipping manifests proving our family was smuggling stolen military weapons.
He had given Sarah the files, and they had fallen in love while trying to build a case against my father.
Julian slipped his hand into his tuxedo pocket and pulled out a small, encrypted silver flash drive.
He told me the drive contained every piece of evidence needed to put Conrad and Damian in federal prison for treason.
He subtly pressed the cold metal drive into my palm beneath the folds of my navy dress.
Before I could ask him about his escape plan, a heavy hand dropped onto Julian's shoulder.
Damian stood between us, his eyes darting suspiciously from my hands to Julian's pale face.
My brother asked what dark family secrets we were whispering about in the middle of a wedding.
I smoothly slipped the drive into my sleeve and told Damian we were simply catching up on lost time.
Damian stepped closer to me, his voice dripping with pure venom.
He warned me that a fancy military title didn't mean anything in the real world of power and money.
I looked Damian dead in the eye and told him he had no idea what real power looked like.
Just as Damian opened his mouth to insult me again, a tiny red dot appeared on the lapel of Julian’s white tuxedo.

I instantly recognized the distinct laser sight of a high-powered sniper rifle.
I violently shoved my nephew to the marble floor just as the massive ballroom window completely shattered.
