Chapter 7 - The Hostage

Daniel looked at us with dead, empty eyes.

His expensive coat was soaked with rain.

He pointed the gun directly at Julian's chest.

He told his brother to shut the door and lock it.

Julian slowly raised his hands and stepped into the room.

I followed closely behind him, keeping my body positioned in front of Lily.

I asked Daniel how he found this place.

Daniel sneered and said Julian always was predictable.

He said Evelyn knew Julian owned this hotel under a shell company.

Julian asked Daniel if he was really willing to pull the trigger for their mother.

Daniel's hand trembled slightly.

He yelled that Julian had ruined everything.

He said he was finally going to have a son, a real family, and the company.

I stared at the man I once loved and felt nothing but disgust.

I told him he was a coward who abandoned his own child.

Daniel turned the gun toward me.

He said he didn't want to hurt me, but Evelyn gave him no choice.

He demanded I give him the real flash drive.

I told him I didn't have it on me.

Daniel cocked the pistol.

He said he wasn't playing games anymore.

Julian slowly shifted his weight.

He told Daniel that Evelyn was lying about the new baby too.

Daniel blinked, lowering the gun by a fraction of an inch.

He asked Julian what he meant.

Julian smirked and told Daniel to think about it.

He asked Daniel if Mia had ever let him attend a single ultrasound appointment.

Daniel swallowed hard.

Julian revealed that Mia wasn't pregnant at all.

She was wearing a prosthetic belly supplied by Evelyn.

Evelyn was planning to buy an infant from a black-market adoption agency to secure the inheritance.

Daniel dropped the gun to his side, his face contorted in denial.

He whispered that it was impossible.

I realized Daniel was distracted.

May you like

I nodded at Julian.

Julian lunged forward and tackled his brother to the floor.
