Chapter 9 - The Estate Assault

The ringing in my ears was incredibly intense, but my deadly focus remained absolute and unwavering.

I kept the heavy rifle trained directly on my father, who was blinking rapidly, trying desperately to clear his blurred vision.

"Tell them to kick their weapons away right now, or I will end your legacy permanently," I commanded in a booming voice.

My father squinted at the barrel of the gun, realizing the power dynamic in the room had completely shifted.

He weakly raised his trembling, wrinkled hand, signaling for his disoriented guards to stand down immediately.

The highly paid mercenaries dropped their firearms and kicked them reluctantly across the polished white tile floor.

I rushed over to Sarah and used the solid butt of the rifle to smash the steel handcuffs holding her to the metal chair.

She winced in severe pain but quickly bent down and grabbed one of the discarded pistols from the ground.

"Get the girls out of the glass room right now," I told her, absolutely not taking my eyes off my father.

Sarah limped heavily over to the wall control panel and smashed her fist onto the emergency release button.

The heavy glass doors slid open, and Lily and Maya immediately sprinted out, burying their tear-stained faces into Sarah's legs.

"You are foolishly throwing away billions of dollars for a child you did not even know existed yesterday," my father sneered bitterly.

"I am saving my beautiful family from a pathetic monster," I replied coldly, feeling no remorse.

I reached into my bloody pocket and pulled out the smartphone I had taken from the motel room floor.

I quickly dialed 911 and placed the phone face-up on the surgical table, leaving the loud speakerphone on.

"I have already forwarded your entire medical file and Sarah's intelligence reports to the FBI field office," I lied smoothly, bluffing to ensure his complete psychological defeat.

My father's wrinkled face drained of the very little color it had left.

The unmistakable sound of distant police sirens began to echo loudly through the estate's massive, sprawling grounds.

Sarah had actually triggered a silent panic alarm on her encrypted smartwatch right before she was brutally captured at the motel.

The local authorities were already heavily swarming the perimeter of the heavily gated mansion.

"You have ruined absolutely everything I built," my father whispered, collapsing into a medical chair in utter, miserable defeat.

"No, I just finally cleaned up your disgusting mess," I said, backing away carefully toward the tunnel exit.

I lowered my weapon slightly, knowing with satisfaction that he would spend the rest of his miserable, short life rotting in a cold federal prison cell.

We turned around together and walked out of the underground suite, leaving my father to face his own inevitable destruction.

I finally had my family back, and the terrible nightmare was coming to an end.

But just as we stepped into the fresh, morning air, my father's weak voice echoed through the dark tunnel one last time.

"You really think she was protecting you this whole time, Ryan?" he laughed maniacally into the shadows.
