Chapter 7 - The Grandfather's Legacy

"Do not touch them," I growled into the phone, my voice trembling with a violent, unrestrained fury.
"They are perfectly fine for now, Ryan, but the private surgical team arrives in exactly two hours," my father replied smoothly.
He hung up the phone immediately, leaving me listening to the mocking sound of a dead dial tone.
I pocketed the bloody phone and rushed back out to the stolen, rusted pickup truck.
My father's sprawling, fortress-like estate was located two hours south, completely isolated on a massive private compound.
I drove recklessly, breaking every single speed limit on the highway to close the terrifying distance.
As a child, I had spent years exploring the hidden service corridors and forgotten basements of that massive mansion.
My father had heavily upgraded his security over the years, but I knew the original blueprints better than his armed guards ever could.
I arrived at the heavily guarded perimeter wall just before dawn, hiding the truck deep within the surrounding woods.
I expertly scaled the stone wall, avoiding the laser motion sensors by climbing through the dense canopy of an ancient oak tree.
I dropped silently onto the perfectly manicured lawn and sprinted toward the darkened guest house.
There was an old, forgotten drainage grate behind the rose garden that led directly into the estate's subterranean utility tunnels.
I pulled the heavy, rusted iron grate open and lowered myself into the damp, echoing darkness.
I navigated the complex maze of pipes and electrical cables, my childhood memory guiding me straight toward the main house's basement level.
When I finally reached the heavy steel access door, I slowly and quietly cracked it open.
I stepped into a sterile, brightly lit medical suite that my father had secretly built underground.
Sarah was handcuffed tightly to a metal chair in the corner, bleeding heavily from a nasty gunshot wound in her left shoulder.
Lily and Maya were locked inside a soundproof glass observation room, crying and holding desperately onto each other.
"Ryan, no," Sarah gasped, her eyes widening as she saw me step bravely out of the shadows.
Before I could rush over to free her from the chair, a cold metal barrel was pressed firmly against the back of my head.
"You always were entirely too stubborn for your own good, Ryan," my father said condescendingly from directly behind me.
May you like
He slowly cocked the hammer of the gun, and three heavily armed guards stepped into the room, raising their assault rifles.
I was completely and utterly trapped.
