Chapter 7 - The Interrogation

Elena shoved the medical printout deep under her thin hospital blanket.

If Adrian discovered she could have children, their entire marriage contract would be void.

He would throw her out onto the street, leaving her completely exposed to her father's assassins.

Adrian rushed to the bedside and took her face in his large, bloodstained hands.

"The housekeeper confessed before my men killed her," he said, his voice trembling slightly.

"She was hired by Benny Carver to poison me."

"I am so sorry you were caught in the crossfire, Elena."

Elena looked into his dark eyes, searching for any hint of deception.

"I need to speak to my father," she demanded softly.

Adrian frowned, clearly confused by the request.

"Your father is locked in one of my underground holding cells."

"He is waiting for me to execute him for sending those snipers to the park."

Elena grabbed Adrian's wrist, her grip surprisingly strong.

"Let me talk to him before you kill him."

An hour later, Elena stood in a damp, concrete cell beneath the Cross estate.

Richard Hayes sat chained to a metal chair, looking like a broken, pathetic old man.

He looked up at his daughter, his eyes filled with absolute terror.

"Elena, please tell your monster of a husband to let me go," he begged.

Elena crossed her arms, showing him no mercy whatsoever.

"Did you pay Dr. Mitchell to fake my infertility records three years ago?" she asked coldly.

Richard stared at her in total confusion.

"Why would I pay a doctor to ruin your value?" he cried out.

"I lost millions in bridal dowries because you were barren!"

"I thought you were genuinely broken!"

Elena searched his desperate face and realized he was telling the exact truth.

Richard hadn't bribed the doctor; he was just as fooled as she was.

She turned and walked out of the cell, leaving her father to his grim fate.

If Richard didn't pay the doctor to fake the diagnosis, there was only one other person who stood to gain.

The man who bought her specifically because she was supposedly worthless.
