Chapter 7 - The Lethal Plan

I shook my head violently, stepping backward away from the wheelchair.

"I am a physical therapist, not a murderer," I argued.

Sebastian let out a low, rough sigh.

"You are not going to kill me, Clare," he explained.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small glass vial.

"This is a highly potent synthetic paralytic drug."

He explained that his underworld doctors used it for advanced interrogations.

"It slows the heart rate to an almost undetectable level and paralyzes all voluntary muscles."

He told me it would perfectly mimic the physical signs of clinical death.

"You will load the gun with a blank round," he continued.

"When we meet Victor, you will shoot me in the chest with the blank."

He said he would inject himself with the drug moments before the trigger was pulled.

"Victor will check my pulse, believe I am dead, and hand over your son."

The plan was incredibly dangerous and relied on perfect timing.

"What if the drug stops your heart completely?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"Then I die," Sebastian said matter-of-factly.

He looked at me with a softness I had never seen in him before.

"But your son will live, and that is a trade I am willing to make."

His willingness to sacrifice his life for my child completely shattered my defenses.

I agreed to the plan, knowing it was our only chance.

We used the burner phone to contact Victor Moretti.

Victor arranged the handover at an abandoned warehouse on the docks.

We arrived an hour later, the rain pouring heavily over the rusted metal buildings.

I pushed Sebastian's wheelchair into the cavernous, echoing warehouse.

Victor was waiting for us, surrounded by a dozen heavily armed men.

Beside him, two guards were holding my terrified son.

Oliver looked pale and fragile, struggling without his breathing machine.

"Mommy!" Oliver cried out, trying to break free from the guards.

"I am right here, baby," I yelled back, tears streaming down my face.

Victor smiled cruelly and stepped forward.

"A deal is a deal, Clare," Victor mocked.

He pointed to Sebastian.

"Do it now, or the boy dies."
