Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

"Run," Sebastian roared, his voice echoing through the massive building.

He scooped Oliver up into his powerful arms, ignoring the agonizing pain in his newly awakened legs.

I grabbed Gabriel, helping the wounded enforcer limp toward the side exit.

We burst through the heavy steel doors and sprinted out into the pouring rain.

We dove behind a massive shipping container just as the timer hit zero.

The explosion tore the warehouse apart in a blinding flash of orange fire.

The shockwave knocked the breath out of my lungs, but we were completely shielded by the heavy steel.

I looked over and saw Sebastian shielding Oliver with his own body.

My son was terrified, but he was completely unharmed.

We sat in the rain, listening to the sirens approaching in the distance, knowing the nightmare was finally over.

Six months later, the criminal landscape of Chicago had completely changed.

Sebastian had dismantled his illegal empire, choosing to rebuild his legacy as a legitimate businessman.

We were walking through a beautiful, sunlit park overlooking Lake Michigan.

Sebastian was walking beside me, using a custom cane to support his recovering spine.

Oliver was running ahead of us on the grass, his health perfectly managed by the best doctors in the world.

Sebastian reached over and gently laced his fingers through mine.

I smiled, feeling a profound, absolute peace that I had never known before.

We had survived the darkness and built a beautiful new life together.

When we returned to the penthouse that afternoon, a small black box was waiting on the kitchen counter.

I opened the lid and found a highly detailed medical scan of a human spine.

It was not Sebastian's old x-ray, but a completely new scan taken only days ago.

A handwritten note rested at the bottom of the box in perfectly neat cursive.

"I built you, Sebastian, and I can break you again."
