Chapter 8 - The Choking Dark

The toxic exhaust smoke quickly clouded the entire garage, making the air thick and incredibly hard to breathe.

Victoria had locked the exterior steel doors from the outside, intentionally leaving them in the concrete tomb to die.

Elena instantly rolled up the window, but the oxygen inside the sealed car was already turning dangerously thin and stale.

Julian began coughing violently in the passenger seat, clutching his chest in obvious pain.

Elena knew they only had a few precious minutes before the carbon monoxide poisoning would kill them both.

She frantically searched the luxurious interior of the car for anything useful or heavy.

Her desperate hands brushed against a heavy metal tire iron hidden underneath the passenger seat.

She pulled it out and ordered Julian to cover his face with his jacket to filter the bad air.

Elena swung the solid iron bar with all her remaining strength against the passenger side window.

The heavily reinforced bulletproof glass cracked into a spiderweb pattern, but it stubbornly refused to shatter.

She swung again and again, screaming in frustration as her hands bled profusely from the violent impact.

Finally, the integrity of the glass failed, breaking open and letting the poisonous smoke flood directly into the cabin.

Elena grabbed Julian by his shirt and dragged his coughing body out of the ruined car.

She looked up through the stinging smoke and spotted a narrow air duct near the ceiling, barely large enough for a child.

Just as she lifted Julian toward the metal vent, a bloody, bruised hand suddenly grabbed her ankle from the thick smoke.
