Chapter 8 - The Warehouse Breach
I huddled deeply in the freezing trunk of Dante's armored SUV, praying his men would not discover my hiding spot.
The heavy vehicle tore through the city streets at breakneck speeds, racing toward the desolate industrial waterfront.
When the convoy finally screeched to a halt, I waited for the heavy slam of the car doors before carefully pushing the trunk open.
The freezing sea breeze whipped through my hair as I slipped silently into the dark shadows of towering shipping containers.
Dante and his small army of highly trained men were marching openly toward the main entrance of the rusted warehouse.
They were the ultimate distraction, drawing all the heavily armed Moretti guards toward the front loading docks.
I knew David was a massive coward who would hide as far away from the actual gunfire as physically possible.
I crept around to the back of the massive building, finding a small, broken ventilation grate near the muddy ground.
I squeezed my shoulders through the jagged metal, entirely ignoring the sharp pain radiating from my healing wounds.
I dropped softly onto a rusted catwalk suspended high above the sprawling warehouse floor.
Down below, a fierce, deafening firefight erupted as Dante's men breached the front steel doors with absolute precision.
My eyes frantically searched the dimly lit corners of the massive building for a small, frightened boy.
I finally spotted David hiding inside a glass-walled manager's office on the second floor, looking completely panicked.
Leo was tied securely to a heavy metal chair right beside him, a terrifying explosive vest strapped to his tiny chest.
David held a dead-man's switch tightly in his right hand, his thumb hovering dangerously over the red detonator button.

I raised my stolen pistol, sneaking silently down the metal stairs to confront the monster who had ruined my life.
Just as I reached the door of the office, David spun around and pressed the cold barrel of his own gun directly against Leo's temple.
