Chapter 5 - The Cellar Trap

My blood ran completely cold at the sound of David's monstrous, unforgivable lie.
Dante's eyes turned entirely pitch-black, radiating a terrifying promise of extreme violence from his very soul.
He quickly tapped his earpiece, communicating silently with his remaining loyal men scattered across the estate.
"Leo is completely safe in the master panic room with Silas," Dante whispered to me, confirming my ex-boyfriend was bluffing.
"David wants to isolate you so he can trade you to the Morettis in exchange for his pathetic, worthless life."
I looked at the mafia boss, finally understanding the brutal, uncompromising rules of the world I had fallen into.
"Let us go down to the cellar and give him exactly what he wants," I suggested, my voice surprisingly steady.
Dante stared at me in genuine surprise, a flicker of dark, unexpected respect passing through his gaze.
He reached down and handed me a small, cold titanium knife hidden in his boot.
"Stay exactly three steps behind me, and do not hesitate to use that if someone grabs you," he ordered.
We descended the spiraling stone staircase into the cavernous, freezing depths of the estate's massive wine cellar.
The smell of aged oak and damp earth was suffocating in the dim, flickering emergency light.
David was standing at the far end of the aisle, holding a trembling flashlight and looking completely terrified.
"Clara, thank God you came," David stammered, taking a hesitant step toward me.
Dante stepped gracefully out of the shadows, raising his weapon with lethal, practiced precision.
"You made a fatal mistake coming into my home tonight," Dante said, his voice echoing menacingly off the brick walls.
David did not scream or beg for mercy as I expected him to do.
Instead, a cruel, incredibly arrogant smile spread across his face as he intentionally dropped his flashlight.
"I didn't come to your home to take the girl, Salvatore," David mocked with a wicked laugh.

"I came here to keep you busy while the real assassins blow open your precious panic room."
A massive, deafening explosion suddenly rocked the foundation of the house, sending dust and debris raining down on our heads.
