Chapter 5 - The Server Room

Alex knew he could not stop the massive drone strike remotely from an abandoned cabin in the woods.

The Apex Dynamics network was heavily isolated, meaning the final launch command had to be overridden physically from their main server hub.

The corporate headquarters was located in a towering, heavily fortified glass skyscraper right in the middle of the financial district.

He stole a beat-up pickup truck from a nearby gas station and drove recklessly back into the neon-lit heart of the city.

Alex parked two blocks away and snuck into the underground parking garage, using an old security badge he had cloned during the acquisition phase.

The building was supposed to be completely empty at this late hour, but the lobby was swarming with armed mercenary guards.

He bypassed the main elevators, climbing thirty grueling flights of stairs to reach the secure executive server floor.

His lungs felt like they were actively bleeding, but he finally stood before the massive, steel-reinforced door of the main server room.

He connected his specialized hacking device to the biometric scanner, frantically running a brute-force decryption program.

The heavy door suddenly clicked open with a loud mechanical hiss, allowing him to slip inside the freezing, blue-lit room.

Rows upon rows of massive black servers hummed loudly, processing the deadly data that would soon ruin the entire world.

Alex found the primary terminal and rapidly plugged in his laptop, typing furiously to initiate his custom kill switch.

He successfully bypassed the first three firewalls, getting dangerously close to entirely shutting down the rogue drone network.

Suddenly, the computer terminal flashed a bright, angry red, locking him completely out of the operating system.

The heavy steel door behind him slammed shut with a terrifying, definitive thud, automatically locking from the outside.

A calm, synthesized voice echoed loudly from the overhead speakers, cheerfully thanking him for personally delivering the final encryption key.

Alex realized too late that the remote connection at the cabin was just bait to lure him directly into the physical trap.

He slammed his fists aggressively against the unbreakable glass of the server room door as panic completely consumed him.

A soft hissing sound suddenly began echoing from the industrial air vents located directly above his head.

Thick, yellow nerve gas began pouring rapidly into the sealed, inescapable room.
