Chapter 2 - The Digital Trail

Kessler felt a cold bead of sweat roll slowly down his neck.
He quickly lied, claiming a massive computer glitch must have caused the public broadcast.
Hale did not look convinced by the pathetic excuse.
He ordered Kessler to march down to that classroom and contain the situation immediately.
Kessler practically ran out of the office to save his own corrupt career.
He needed to warn Mrs. Whitmore before the local news stations got involved.
Back in the classroom, the bell finally rang for the lunch period.
Jordan ran out of the room with hot tears streaming down his face.
Nolan packed his backpack slowly, trying desperately to avoid drawing any attention to himself.
He pulled out his cell phone to check the school's public website.
He had managed to screen-record the live feed before Kessler shut the system down.
He now held undeniable proof of the teacher's abusive behavior in the palm of his hand.
Suddenly, a cold, bony hand clamped down hard on Nolan's shoulder.
Mrs. Whitmore stood towering over him, blocking his only path to the door.
She demanded to know what he was looking at on his glowing screen.
Nolan quickly shoved the device deep into his jacket pocket.
He stammered a weak excuse about checking the time for his next class.
Mrs. Whitmore did not believe a single word he said.
She locked the classroom door with a loud, terrifying metallic click.
She told Nolan that she knew exactly who had plugged that camera back in.
Kessler suddenly burst into the classroom through the connecting side door.
He locked it behind him and stared angrily at the panicked teacher.
He whispered fiercely that the entire district might have seen the video by now.
Mrs. Whitmore pointed a long, accusatory finger directly at Nolan.
She declared that this student was the only one who could ruin everything they had built.
Kessler slowly turned his cold, calculating gaze toward the terrified teenager.
He reached into his tailored jacket and pulled out a small black electronic device.
He pressed a button, and Nolan's cell phone instantly lost all cellular and Wi-Fi signal.
Kessler calmly stated that Nolan was not leaving this room today.
Nolan backed away until his shoulders hit the cold cinderblock wall.
He realized this intense panic was not just about a torn history test.
They were protecting a secret much larger and darker than a single bullied student.
A heavy, frantic knock suddenly echoed on the hallway door.

It was Jordan's voice begging to be let inside the room.
He shouted that he had just found Mrs. Whitmore's hidden ledger in the library.
