Chapter 1 - The Silent Feed

The classroom felt entirely too cold for a Tuesday morning.
Jordan kept his head down, staring at the final question on his history exam.
He had studied all week for this test because his scholarship depended on it.
Mrs. Whitmore paced the aisles with a heavy wooden ruler tapping against her palm.
She stopped directly in front of Jordan's desk with a cruel, calculating sneer.
Without a single word, she snatched the paper right out from under his pencil.
She tore the finished test perfectly in half.
Jordan gasped in absolute shock as she dropped the shredded pieces onto his lap.
She loudly announced to the entire room that he was a pathetic cheater.
The rest of the class stared in absolute, terrified silence.
No one noticed the small red light blinking on the ceiling security camera.
Mrs. Whitmore had unplugged the main ethernet cord ten minutes ago.
She thought there would be absolutely no evidence of her daily cruelty.
She was completely and utterly wrong.
Nolan had crawled under the computer desks while everyone was distracted by the shouting.
He quietly plugged the thick cable back into the wall socket.
The classroom camera came back online immediately.
Down the hall, the live feed popped up on a secure administrative monitor.
Vice Principal Kessler watched the screen in utter shock.
He saw Jordan crying and Mrs. Whitmore raising the wooden ruler aggressively.
The heavy oak door of the office suddenly swung wide open.
Principal Hale walked in holding a steaming cup of coffee.
He asked if the classroom camera had finally come back online after the maintenance outage.
Kessler panicked and slammed his hand onto the monitor's power button.
The screen went completely black before Hale could see the abuse happening down the hall.
Hale stared at Kessler with narrowed, highly suspicious eyes.
He asked what exactly Kessler was trying to hide in such a rush.
Kessler froze in his expensive leather chair, desperately trying to invent a believable lie.
Before he could speak, the main office phone rang with a blaring, urgent tone.
Hale answered the phone, and his face instantly turned a sickening shade of pale.
He hung up the receiver and looked at Kessler with pure, unadulterated rage.
A furious parent had just called to report a live video of a teacher attacking a student.

The camera feed had not just gone to the principal's office.
It had automatically broadcasted to the school district's public safety portal.
