Chapter 1 - The Arrival

The tarmac at the private airfield shimmered under the blistering heat.

It created a mirage-like distortion that mirrored the fragile reality Isabella Vance had cultivated for over a decade.

It was a sterile and isolated stage designed specifically for the arrival of the city’s most influential billionaire.

Julian Vance was a man whose mere presence could shift the global stock market.

Isabella stood at the edge of the asphalt.

Her posture radiated the kind of brittle entitlement that only comes from a lifetime of being told the world was hers to command.

She was clad in a designer dress that cost more than most people earned in a year.

Her oversized sunglasses shielded eyes that were sharp and perpetually scanning for any sign of defiance.

To Isabella, the young woman standing quietly by her side was little more than a necessary accessory.

Maya was a voiceless entity meant to manage the logistics of her chaotic social schedule.

Isabella had not looked at Maya as a human being in the three years she had been employed at the estate.

Maya was merely a piece of furniture that occasionally moved and fulfilled mundane tasks.

"Take this bag and load it into the car," Isabella commanded with a dismissive tone.

She did not look at Maya or wait for a response.

She was already busy checking her reflection in the side mirror of the waiting limousine.

Isabella adjusted her grip on her own luxury handbag.

She existed in a vacuum where the only voices that mattered were the ones that reinforced her own importance.

A deafening roar broke the silence as Julian's private jet finally touched down.

The massive aircraft slowed to a halt just a few yards away from the waiting limousine.

The heavy cabin doors unsealed with a mechanical hiss.

The steel stairs automatically unfolded and locked into place against the burning tarmac.

Julian Vance stepped out into the blazing sunlight.

He wore a sharply tailored suit and carried a silver metallic briefcase tightly in his left hand.

Isabella immediately put on her most charming and practiced smile.

She stepped forward to greet the man who controlled her family's endless wealth.

"Julian, darling, your flight was perfectly on time," Isabella purred smoothly.

Julian did not even blink at her.

He walked straight past Isabella as if she were completely invisible.

Isabella froze in absolute shock as her extended hand grasped nothing but empty air.

Julian walked directly toward the gray-clad assistant standing silently near the trunk of the car.

He stopped inches away from Maya and looked deeply into her terrified brown eyes.

Julian shoved the heavy silver briefcase directly into Maya's trembling hands.

"Do not trust anyone in my family, especially her," Julian whispered urgently.

Before Maya could even process his words, a blinding flash of light erupted from the cabin of the jet.

The entire aircraft exploded into a massive fireball that threw them all violently to the ground.
