Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

Julian’s arrogant smile faltered when he saw Victoria step out of the elevator. She didn't look like a defeated woman. Even barefoot and covered in dust, she moved with the terrifying, untouchable grace of an apex predator.

"Three minutes to nine," Julian checked his watch, trying to regain his composure. "You made it to the floor, Victoria. But you aren't making it past me. Guards, take the briefcase."

The two men stepped forward.

Jax stepped in front of Victoria, raising his fists. But Victoria put a hand on Jax’s shoulder, stopping him.

"Julian," Victoria said softly, walking directly toward the armed men without a flinch of fear. "You think you're holding a winning hand. You think you hacked the OmniCorp servers. Check your phone."

Julian frowned. He pulled his smartphone from his tailored suit jacket. His face instantly drained of color. The color of a man watching his entire life evaporate.

"Where is it?" Julian gasped, his hands shaking. "Where is my money? My accounts are zeroed out!"

"You tried to hack my escrow," Victoria smiled, a cold, merciless curve of her lips. "You opened your own firewall to do it. Jax here just donated your entire hedge fund to a Vanguard Systems employee restitution charity. It's completely untraceable."

Julian dropped his scotch glass. It shattered on the marble floor.
