Chapter 7 - The Ascent

Victoria and Jax sprinted through the blinding white foam, coughing as the chemicals burned their lungs. They reached the VIP elevator just as the doors slid open. They dove inside, and Jax slammed his fist onto the button for floor seventy.
The elevator shot upward. Victoria leaned against the glass wall, catching her breath. She looked down at her ruined trench coat and her torn stockings. She looked entirely unhinged.
"You uploaded the virus," Victoria said, looking at Jax. "What did it do?"
"It didn't just protect the OmniCorp servers," Jax grinned, a dark, vengeful look in his eyes. "It routed directly into Julian’s hedge fund mainframe. For every second he tried to hack your deal, my virus was dumping his liquid assets into an anonymous, decentralized charity fund. He's bleeding out, and he doesn't even know it yet."
Victoria looked at the grease-stained mechanic with newfound respect. "You're a very dangerous man, Jax."
"I learned from the best," he replied as the elevator chimed.
