Chapter 5 - The Gala of Deception

The Obsidian Annual Gala was the social event of the year. Two thousand of the world's wealthiest and most powerful individuals gathered in the grand ballroom of the Tower. The room was draped in black velvet and gold, dripping with excess.
Down in the kitchen, Sebastian was orchestrating the culinary service with militant precision. He was putting the finishing touches on a massive, seven-foot-tall sugar glass sculpture of a phoenix.
"Chef! Table four needs the truffle risotto, stat!" a line cook yelled.
"Go," Sebastian commanded, waving him off. But his mind wasn't on the food. He was watching the clock. It was 10:45 PM.
Upstairs in the ballroom, Victoria was playing the part of the radiant bride-to-be. But her eyes were scanning the room. She saw Oliver step up to the podium to prepare for his keynote speech. The security detail shifted toward the stage. The study upstairs was completely unguarded.
Sebastian pulled his phone from his apron. A green light blinked on his custom app.

She was making her move.
Sebastian untied his dusted black apron, letting it fall to the floor of the kitchen. He wiped his hands on a towel, straightened his posture, and walked out the back doors. He was no longer the Executive Chef. He was Sebastian Obsidian.
