Chapter 6 - Echoes of a Dead Wife
Dante aggressively tackled Rosa to the thick carpet.
He used his massive body to shield her from the flying glass.
Deafening gunfire echoed wildly throughout the enormous estate.
Dante's guards immediately returned fire from the perimeter walls.
The terrifying assault abruptly stopped after one agonizing minute.
Dante frantically checked Rosa for any fatal gunshot wounds.
She was bleeding slightly from a glass cut, but she was alive.
They both crawled desperately toward the overturned toy chest.
Sophia was crying hysterically but was completely safe beneath the wooden lid.
Dante pulled the little girl into a fierce, protective embrace.
His second-in-command, Matteo, rushed into the ruined nursery.
Matteo handed Dante a hot bullet casing he had found lodged in the wall.
Dante turned the brass casing over in his bloodstained fingers.
Rosa gasped loudly when she saw the marking.

The casing had a coiled snake deliberately carved into the metal.
It meant her ex-husband knew exactly which room she was sleeping in.
