Chapter 3 - A Desperate Midnight Flight

Rosa knew she could not stay in this house for another second.

She waited until the estate was completely silent at two in the morning.

She packed a single duffel bag with Sophia's clothes and her meager savings.

She strapped the sleeping toddler to her chest in a worn baby carrier.

Rosa crept down the back servants' staircase with trembling legs.

She successfully bypassed the kitchen and reached the side door.

The cool night air hit her face as she pushed the heavy door open.

Freedom was only a few hundred yards away across the lawn.

Suddenly, a heavy hand grabbed her by the throat and shoved her against the brick wall.

Sophia whimpered in her sleep but thankfully did not wake.

Victor stepped into the moonlight with a cruel smirk on his face.

He told her that her ex-husband wanted his property back.

Victor pressed the barrel of a silenced pistol against her ribs.

He whispered that she was going to steal Dante's private ledger for the cartel.

He warned her that if she refused, Sophia would not live to see the morning.

A dark figure stepped silently out of the bushes directly behind Victor.

Dante Falcone raised his own weapon and pointed it at the back of the guard's head.
