Chapter 2 - The Hostile Takeover

The sterile smell of the hospital room suddenly made Amelia incredibly nauseous.
She stared at the fraudulent psychiatric evaluation resting on her blanket.
Nathan stood over her with a triumphant smirk, adjusting his expensive silk tie.
He explained that the hospital board owed him a massive favor for his recent charitable donations.
Because she was deemed experiencing severe postpartum psychosis, he now had temporary sole custody of the triplets.
He whispered that a private medical transport was arriving in one hour to move the babies to a private facility of his choosing.
Amelia’s heart slammed against her ribs as absolute terror washed over her.
If Nathan took the babies, he would use them as leverage to drain her grandfather's trust completely dry.
Nathan turned and walked out, telling the security guard at the door not to let Amelia leave the room.
Amelia waited exactly thirty seconds before ripping the IV needle out of her arm.
She ignored the burning pain and grabbed her laptop from the bedside table.
She needed to find the exact financial trail connecting Nathan to the corrupt chief of medicine.
Her fingers flew across the keyboard, bypassing the superficial company ledgers she had pretended not to understand for years.
She accessed the hidden backdoor she had secretly coded into Cross Meridian’s accounting software before their wedding.
Within minutes, she found a massive wire transfer sent from Vanessa’s foundation directly to an offshore account owned by the doctor.
Amelia immediately forwarded the transaction records to Lucas with a single urgent instruction.
She told him to file an emergency federal injunction against the hospital for medical fraud.
Just as she hit send, the power in her hospital room completely shut off.
The emergency backup lights flickered on, casting a sickly red glow over the room.
The heavy door creaked open, and Vanessa stepped inside wearing a stunning evening gown.
May you like
Vanessa smiled sweetly and locked the door behind her.
She held up a syringe filled with a clear liquid and told Amelia it was time for her sedative.
