Chapter 6 - The Vault

The digital timer on the explosive device glowed with a sinister red light, indicating there were only exactly four minutes left until total detonation.

Marcus laughed maniacally, declaring that if he could not walk away with the Blackwood fortune, absolutely no one would.

He reached into his pocket and crushed the remote detonator override switch, permanently locking the explosive countdown in place.

Victor knew they could not possibly run fast enough to escape the massive blast radius of that much military-grade C4.

He immediately ordered everyone to run toward the subterranean vault, the only structure in the house designed to withstand a direct missile strike.

Julian grabbed Marcus by his heavy tactical vest, intending to drag the injured mercenary along to face justice later.

Marcus aggressively fought back, pulling a hidden blade from his boot and violently slashing it across Julian's forearm.

Julian stumbled backward in pain, forcing him to release his grip and leave the psychotic security chief bleeding on the floor.

Victor, Lily, Julian, and little Ethan sprinted down the long, spiral stone staircase leading deep into the bedrock beneath the mansion.

Victor rapidly punched a complex series of numbers into the biometric keypad next to the massive, titanium vault door.

The heavy internal locking mechanisms clanked loudly, and the massive circular door slowly began to swing open on its heavy steel hinges.

They desperately rushed inside the cold, brightly lit vault just as they heard the deafening sound of Serena's frantic footsteps rushing down the stairs behind them.

She threw herself against the closing titanium door, screaming and begging them not to leave her out there to die in the fire.

Victor looked into the terrified eyes of the woman who had mercilessly abused his son and tried to murder him for his money.

Despite everything she had done, his inherent humanity would not allow him to simply watch another human being burn alive.

He reached out and violently grabbed her arm, forcefully dragging her inside the vault mere seconds before the door slammed shut.

The heavy steel locking bolts automatically engaged with a final, terrifying thud, sealing them perfectly inside the impenetrable room.

A massive, earth-shattering explosion violently rocked the mansion above them, aggressively shaking the thick concrete walls of the underground bunker.

The bright overhead lights instantly flickered and died, plunging the five survivors into absolute, terrifying darkness.

A red emergency backup light clicked on, illuminating a digital panel on the wall that displayed a rapidly decreasing oxygen level.
