Chapter 5 - The Distraction

Victor spat blood onto the polished floor, staring defiantly at his former head of security with a look of absolute disgust.

He refused to surrender the access code, knowing that the vault contained sensitive files that could destroy Serena's entire fake identity.

Marcus forcefully grabbed Victor by his hair, raising the sharp combat knife to make good on his horrific, violent threat.

Up in the ventilation shaft, Julian knew he had to act immediately before his older brother was permanently mutilated.

He reached into his tactical vest and pulled out a small, spherical flashbang grenade he had smuggled into the country.

Julian pulled the metal pin and kicked the rusty ventilation grate completely off its hinges, dropping the explosive device directly into the room below.

The metal canister hit the floor with a loud clatter, instantly drawing the confused attention of both Marcus and Serena.

A massive, blinding flash of white light erupted in the confined space, accompanied by a deafening bang that violently shook the walls.

Marcus and Serena dropped their weapons, screaming in pain as they desperately covered their eyes and ears to escape the sensory overload.

Julian tied a sturdy rope to a structural beam and rapidly repelled down into the chaotic, smoke-filled security room.

He delivered a brutal, spinning kick to Marcus's chest, sending the heavy mercenary crashing violently through a large glass monitoring screen.

Lily carefully climbed down the rope with Ethan securely strapped to her back, rushing immediately to Victor's side.

She pulled a small pocketknife from her apron and frantically sawed through the thick plastic zip ties binding Victor's wrists.

Victor rubbed his raw, bleeding arms and looked at his younger brother with a mixture of profound shock and deep gratitude.

There was no time for a heartfelt family reunion, as Serena was already blindly crawling across the floor trying to locate her dropped revolver.

Victor stepped heavily on her hand, kicking the silver weapon far under a heavy metal desk out of her reach.

He grabbed Serena by the collar of her ruined designer dress, demanding to know how she planned to escape the locked-down mansion.

Suddenly, a terrifying, rhythmic beeping sound echoed from the heavy duffel bag Marcus had brought into the room.

Marcus sat up against the shattered glass, coughing up blood but smiling with a psychotic, triumphant grin.

He revealed that the bag was packed with enough military-grade C4 explosives to instantly level the entire estate and everyone inside it.
