Chapter 9 - The Sterling Secret

The red laser dot hovered ominously over the life growing inside Grace.

Ethan crawled pathetically behind a leather seat, begging the heavily armed men outside to take Grace instead of him.

Grace closed her eyes, wrapping both arms securely around her stomach, fully prepared for the final, fatal shot.

She felt absolutely completely helpless against the heavily armed cartel soldiers.

But Liam Sterling did not seek cover, and he did not raise his hands in surrender.

He calmly adjusted the cuffs of his expensive suit and walked directly out of the open door of the plane.

He stepped down the metal stairs, completely exposing himself to the dozens of loaded assault rifles pointing at him.

The lead cartel boss stepped forward out of the pouring rain, holding a custom-engraved pistol with a silencer.

The boss looked up at the stairs, squinting against the blinding helicopter searchlights.

The moment the boss recognized Liam's face, his entire aggressive demeanor completely vanished.

The ruthless cartel boss instantly dropped his pistol onto the wet tarmac and bowed his head deeply in profound respect.

"Apologies, Boss Sterling," the cartel leader shouted over the roaring wind.

"We did not realize this operation was under your family's personal protection."

Grace stared out the airplane window in absolute, mind-numbing shock.

Her brothers were not just wealthy venture capitalists and brilliant defense attorneys.

They were the undisputed heads of a massive, terrifying global underworld syndicate that commanded respect from international cartels.

Liam waved his hand dismissively, pointing back inside the cabin of the jet.

"The man and the woman inside the plane stole your money," Liam announced coldly to the waiting soldiers.

"Take them away, and make sure they are never seen or heard from again."

Cartel soldiers rushed up the stairs, violently dragging a screaming Ethan and a hysterical Lauren out into the unforgiving storm.

Liam turned around, walked back up the stairs, and offered a gentle, reassuring smile to his terrified sister.

"Let's go home, Gracie," Liam said softly.
