Chapter 4 - The Medical Secret
I backed against the cold steel wall of the elevator.
Greg took a slow, menacing step toward me.
"Vanessa was kind enough to locate you for me."
"She even offered to pay for the best custody lawyers in the state."
Vanessa leaned against the hood of the car.
"All you have to do is sign a written confession for the wire fraud."
"If you take the fall, Greg goes away."
"If you refuse, you go to prison, and Greg gets full custody of Lily."
I felt hot tears spilling down my cheeks.
Lily started to cry, sensing the pure evil in the room.
"You are a monster," I whispered to Vanessa.
Suddenly, the heavy metal fire doors of the garage flew open.
Marcus sprinted into the underground lot.
He saw the gun in Marta's hand and stopped in his tracks.
Greg turned around and sneered at the billionaire.
"This is none of your business, rich boy."
"I have legal rights to that little girl."
Marcus stood perfectly tall and stared Greg down.
"You have no rights at all."
"Lily is my biological daughter."
The entire garage fell into a stunned, heavy silence.
I stared at Marcus in utter shock.
Vanessa threw her head back and laughed hysterically.
She reached into her designer purse and pulled out a manila envelope.
"That is a very brave lie, Marcus."
Vanessa pulled a medical document from the envelope and held it up.
