Chapter 5 - The Awakening

Clara frantically yelled through the wooden crack that she was securely locked inside.
Lorenzo ripped the tangled IV tubes from his arms with a violent, painful grunt.
He dragged his incredibly weak body to the edge of the mattress and tumbled onto the floor.
He crawled agonizingly across the expensive carpet, leaving a trail of blood from his torn IV sites.
Giorgio was still writhing on the floor, trying desperately to breathe through his damaged throat.
Lorenzo reached the heavy bookshelf and used the edge of a nearby table to pull himself upward.
He found the heavy iron padlock securing the hidden door and grabbed a heavy brass lamp.
He smashed the heavy lamp against the lock three times until the cheap metal shattered.
Clara pushed the shelf open and fell out into the main room, gasping for fresh air.
She helped Lorenzo stand up, supporting his massive, trembling weight against her small shoulder.
"We have exactly five minutes before his security team does their rounds," Lorenzo wheezed.
Clara looked down at Giorgio, who was slowly beginning to regain his dangerous composure.
Giorgio reached for the black syringe he had dropped, planning to stab Lorenzo in the leg.
Clara did not hesitate or wait for permission to act.
She swung the heavy fire extinguisher she was still holding and struck Giorgio directly in the head.
Giorgio instantly went completely limp and unconscious on the bloody carpet.
Lorenzo looked at the terrified maid with a newfound, profound sense of respect.
"What is your name?" the crime boss asked quietly.
"Clara," she answered, wiping away a terrified tear.
"Your daughter has a beautiful singing voice, Clara."
"We need to get her and leave this house right now," Clara demanded fiercely.
"We are not leaving," Lorenzo replied, his eyes narrowing into cold slits.
He walked over to his massive mahogany wardrobe and pressed a hidden button on the side panel.
The back of the wardrobe slid away, revealing an enormous armory of high-powered assault weapons.

"We are going to kill every single traitor in this house," Lorenzo announced as he loaded a heavy shotgun.
Before he could hand Clara a weapon, the blaring sound of the estate's emergency alarm shattered the silence.
