Chapter 6 - The Marriage Contract
The chef smiled cruelly and pushed Theo roughly toward Leonardo.
The little boy ran into his father's arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
The chef aimed his gun at Abigail's chest, preparing to execute the runaway daughter.
Abigail did not flinch, but instead kicked the metal table leg beside her foot.
The hidden compartment she knew about sprang open, releasing a cloud of heavy chemical flour into the air.
Leonardo fired blindly through the thick, blinding dust.
The chef screamed and fell to the concrete floor, clutching his shattered shoulder.
Leonardo rushed forward and kicked the weapon away from the bleeding traitor.
He brutally interrogated the man, demanding to know Vincente's next move.
The chef spat blood and laughed, claiming Vincente would never stop hunting Abigail or the Costa family.
Leonardo executed the chef with a single, silenced gunshot.
He turned to Abigail, who was shaking violently from the adrenaline crash.
He realized she had risked her own life to save a child she had known for less than twenty-four hours.
Leonardo wrapped his heavy coat around her trembling shoulders.
He told her that Vincente would easily claim her and drag her back to Chicago if she remained a single woman.
He said the only way the underworld laws would protect her was if she belonged to another boss.
Leonardo proposed that they get married immediately, binding their families and creating an impenetrable shield.
Abigail looked into his dark, intense eyes and realized she had nowhere else to run.
She agreed to the marriage contract, knowing it was the only way to protect the children she was already growing to love.
They drove back to the estate as the morning sun began to rise over the snowy city.
Leonardo summoned a corrupt city judge to the mansion to perform the ceremony immediately.
Abigail stood in the grand foyer wearing a simple white dress borrowed from the staff.

The judge asked if she took this dangerous mafia boss to be her legally wedded husband.
Before Abigail could say the words, a massive explosion rocked the front of the estate.
