Chapter 2 - The Chef's Secret

Leonardo locked the heavy bedroom door and drew the customized pistol from his shoulder holster.
He waited in the shadows until Abigail finally returned from the kitchen.
She walked into the room wiping flour from her hands and stopped dead when she saw the gun pointed at her chest.
Leonardo demanded to know exactly who she was and who had sent her to infiltrate his home.
Abigail did not scream or beg for her life like a normal civilian would.
She calmly walked over to the suitcase and pulled out the heavy metal barrel of the weapon.
She pressed a hidden button on the side of the metal tube.
The object snapped open to reveal an incredibly rare, custom-made motorized pasta extruder.
She then opened the smaller black boxes, revealing a set of professional chef knives that cost more than luxury cars.
Leonardo lowered his weapon slightly, but his dark eyes remained full of lethal suspicion.
He pointed at the stacks of bearer bonds and asked how a simple cook possessed three million dollars.
Abigail looked away for the first time, her warm brown eyes filling with a dark, haunted pain.
She explained that the money was stolen from the man who had kept her locked in a basement kitchen for ten years.
She had baked pastries for his illegal gambling rings until she finally found a way to escape.
Leonardo asked for the name of the man who had abused her.
Abigail whispered the name Vincente Morretti.
Leonardo felt the air completely leave his lungs.
Vincente Morretti was the ruthless boss of the Chicago syndicate and Leonardo's most dangerous rival.

Abigail was not just a runaway cook.
She was the hidden daughter of the most brutal mafia boss in the country.
