Chapter 5 - The Silent Agreement

Leonardo shattered his expensive glass whiskey decanter against the brick fireplace in pure, unadulterated rage.

His men were frantically searching the snowy grounds, but the traitor had slipped through a blind spot in the cameras.

Abigail grabbed Leonardo's arm, forcing the massive, intimidating man to look directly at her.

She told him that the chef would take Theo to a specific warehouse in Brooklyn used by her father's syndicate.

Leonardo asked how she could possibly know that.

Abigail confessed that the chef was one of her father's deeply embedded spies, a man who had tortured her when she was young.

She said she knew exactly how he operated and where he would hide to await extraction.

Leonardo began loading highly illegal tactical weapons into a duffel bag.

He told Abigail to stay in the house where it was safe.

Abigail grabbed her customized chef's knife and refused to be left behind.

She told Leonardo that the warehouse had a biometric lock that only a Morretti bloodline could open.

Leonardo stared at her fierce, uncompromising expression and finally nodded.

They drove through the freezing blizzard in complete, deadly silence.

They arrived at the abandoned meatpacking facility on the edge of the dark river.

Abigail placed her hand on the hidden scanner, and the heavy steel door hissed open.

The warehouse was completely dark except for a single swinging bulb in the center of the room.

The head chef was holding a terrified Theo hostage with a gun pressed to the boy's head.

The chef laughed and told Abigail that her father sent his regards.

Leonardo raised his weapon, but he knew the angle was entirely impossible without hitting his son.

Abigail stepped forward slowly, lowering her knife to the ground in a gesture of surrender.

She told the chef she would trade her life for the boy's freedom.
