Chapter 9 - The Devil's Bargain

Roman pushed Khloe entirely behind his broad shoulders and raised his weapon fiercely toward the approaching army of men.
Dominic Valente stepped gracefully out of the lead sedan, clapping his hands together in a slow, highly mocking rhythm.
Dominic smiled wickedly and told Roman that he fought incredibly well, but his pathetic war was officially over.
Roman completely refused to surrender, firing two rapid shots that instantly dropped Dominic's two closest bodyguards to the asphalt.
A massive, brutal firefight erupted on the empty highway, echoing like terrifying thunder in the pitch-black night.
Roman fought like an absolute demon, returning fire with lethal precision, but he was completely outgunned and rapidly running out of ammunition.
He took a grazing bullet directly to the shoulder and fell heavily to one knee, bleeding profusely onto the wet road.
Khloe realized with absolute horror that the only man who had ever truly protected her was about to die defending her.
She stepped out from behind Roman's safe cover and screamed at the top of her lungs for everyone to stop firing immediately.
Khloe looked directly into Dominic's cold eyes and offered him a desperate, terrifying deal to save Roman's life.
She boldly promised to lead him to her father's hidden fifty million dollars if he agreed to let Roman walk away alive right now.
Dominic smiled greedily, accepted the incredibly lucrative terms, and violently grabbed Khloe by her fragile arm.
Roman screamed her name in pure, unfiltered agony as Dominic dragged her forcefully into the back of his heavily armored car.
The car sped rapidly away into the darkness, leaving Roman bleeding and completely broken on the highway.
Inside the moving vehicle, Dominic laughed cruelly and told Khloe she was a foolish, naive little girl for trusting him.
Khloe instantly stopped crying, her beautiful face turning completely cold, calculating, and devoid of any human emotion.

She reached deep into the high slit of her blue silk dress and pulled out a small, fully loaded pistol she had hidden there.
She pressed the cold, steel barrel directly against the side of Dominic's temple without a single tremble in her hand.
