Chapter 9 - The Sacrifice

The heavy guns clattered loudly against the concrete floor, echoing completely through the tense garage.

Victor kicked the weapons entirely away from his boots, raising his empty hands slowly into the air.

"Let the boy go, Leo, you have completely won the war," Victor said in a shockingly calm voice.

Leo smirked triumphantly, keeping the heavy rifle pressed firmly against Tommy's trembling temple.

"You really fell in love with a pathetic little maid, it is honestly embarrassing," Leo mocked him openly.

Chloe stood perfectly still, trying desperately to control her wildly shaking hands.

She remembered the small, compact pistol Victor had secretly given her two days ago for absolute emergencies.

It was currently hidden deep inside the right pocket of her oversized sweater, entirely out of sight.

She knew she only had one single, desperate chance to save the two men she loved.

"Please, just take me instead of him," Chloe cried out loudly, stepping aggressively forward to draw Leo's attention.

Leo turned his head slightly toward her, highly annoyed by her sudden, dramatic outburst.

In that brief, single fraction of a second, Victor dropped violently to his knees.

Chloe pulled the hidden pistol from her pocket, closed her eyes tightly, and pulled the heavy trigger.

The deafening gunshot startled Leo entirely, completely breaking his fierce concentration.

Her bullet entirely missed Leo, completely shattering the window of the SUV parked directly behind him.

But the sudden distraction was exactly what Victor had been expertly waiting for.

Victor lunged forward like a wild animal, tackling his former best friend heavily to the hard concrete.

He violently twisted the assault rifle entirely out of Leo's hands and delivered a brutal punch to his jaw.

Leo fell completely unconscious against the floor, his grand betrayal officially coming to a violent end.

Tommy scrambled away desperately, falling safely into Chloe's waiting, trembling arms.

Victor stood up slowly, breathing heavily as he looked down at the traitor who had ruined everything.

Before anyone could celebrate, the heavy garage doors violently exploded inward with a deafening crash.

Dante Moretti stood in the smoking wreckage, holding a massive shotgun aimed directly at Victor's chest.

"Nobody walks away from my debts, Russo," Dante screamed fiercely over the chaotic noise.

Dante pulled the heavy trigger, and Victor was violently thrown backward onto the floor in a massive spray of blood.
