Chapter 10 - The Monster's Heart

Chloe screamed with absolute, pure agony as Victor hit the concrete floor heavily.

Before Dante could pump the heavy shotgun for a second shot, Victor's surviving guards flooded the garage entirely.

They opened massive, overwhelming fire on Dante, instantly neutralizing the rival boss and ending the violent war forever.

Chloe threw herself onto Victor's bleeding body, pressing her small hands desperately against the massive wound in his shoulder.

"You promised you would keep me safe, you cannot break that promise now," she sobbed uncontrollably over him.

Victor smiled weakly, his dark eyes entirely filled with profound, overwhelming affection for her.

"I always keep my promises to you, Bennett," he whispered before completely losing consciousness.

Three long, agonizing months later, the violent winter storms had fully given way to a beautiful, bright spring.

Chloe sat nervously in the waiting room of the most exclusive, expensive private hospital in Chicago.

Victor walked slowly through the double doors, his arm no longer in a sling, looking incredibly handsome in a tailored suit.

He sat down closely beside her and gently took her small, trembling hand into his large one.

"The surgeon just finished the procedure, and the new kidney is functioning absolutely perfectly," Victor announced with a warm smile.

Chloe burst into happy, entirely relieved tears, knowing her brother was finally going to live a long, healthy life.

Victor had completely funded the expensive transplant, using his vast wealth to bump Tommy to the top of the private donor list.

With the Moretti family entirely destroyed, Victor had successfully transitioned his empire into completely legitimate corporate businesses.

He pulled a small, velvet box from his suit pocket and opened it to reveal a stunning, flawless diamond ring.

"I am officially retiring the maid uniform forever, if you will do me the honor of becoming my wife," he proposed softly.

She kissed him deeply and passionately, completely accepting his beautiful offer without a single moment of hesitation.

They were finally entirely safe, deeply in love, and ready to start a wonderful, peaceful life together.

Later that evening, a small, unmarked package was delivered entirely by mistake to their heavily guarded front door.

Chloe opened the plain brown box to find a faded photograph of Victor’s purportedly dead older brother.

Written clearly in fresh blood on the back of the picture was a terrifying, simple message.
