Chapter 9 - The Flood
Tommy raised his gun, pressing the barrel directly against Rosa's temple.
Mia screamed, covering her eyes with her small hands.
The water in the basement had reached Aleandro's knees, dragging Marco down.
Aleandro knew bullets would not break the glass, but he had not come unprepared.
He reached into his tactical vest and pulled out a block of military-grade C4 explosive.
He slapped the explosive directly onto the center of the spider-webbed glass and jammed a detonator into the clay.
Vincenzo saw the explosive and his arrogant smile vanished instantly.
"Run!" Vincenzo screamed, turning as fast as his bad leg would allow.
Aleandro grabbed Marco by the collar and dragged him behind a heavy steel pillar.
"Cover your ears!" Aleandro yelled, pressing the remote trigger.
The explosion shook the entire foundation of the slaughterhouse.
The deafening blast shattered the bulletproof glass into a million jagged pieces.
The pressure wave blew the water violently backward, creating a massive opening in the wall.
Aleandro charged through the smoke and debris, his rifle raised.
Tommy had been thrown against the far wall by the blast, dropping his weapon.
Vincenzo was crawling toward the exit door, coughing on the thick, gray dust.
Rosa was huddled on the floor, shielding Mia with her own body.
Aleandro rushed over and pulled Rosa to her feet, checking Mia for injuries.
They were covered in dust, but they were unharmed.
Tommy stumbled to his feet, pulling a hidden knife from his boot.
He lunged blindly through the smoke toward Aleandro's back.
Marco, leaning against the broken glass frame, raised his pistol and fired a single shot.
Tommy fell dead to the floor before his knife could even touch Aleandro.
Vincenzo finally reached the door and pulled himself up using the handle.
He turned around, pulling a small, silver revolver from his coat pocket.

"If I can't have her, nobody will!" Vincenzo screamed in pure madness.
He aimed the revolver directly at Mia's chest and pulled the trigger.
