Chapter 2 - The Name

Aleandro stared at his doctor in complete disbelief.
A simple maid working at his estate should not be the target of an international crime syndicate.
"Pack her up," Aleandro ordered smoothly.
"We are moving her and the child to the secure penthouse in the city."
Marco arranged for an armored ambulance to transport the unconscious woman.
Mia sat quietly on Aleandro's lap in the back of the Cadillac during the long drive.
She clutched her yellow gloves, her large brown eyes watching the city lights blur past the window.
"Is my mama going to heaven?" Mia asked softly.
Aleandro felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest.
"No, little one," he promised her.
"Your mama is going to be just fine."
They arrived at the penthouse, a heavily fortified fortress sitting eighty stories above Manhattan.
Armed guards secured every elevator and stairwell in the building.
The doctor set up a makeshift hospital room for the mother in the guest wing.
Aleandro sat at the massive oak dining table, pouring himself a glass of expensive whiskey.
Marco walked into the room holding a tablet computer.
"Boss, I ran a background check on the maid just like you asked," Marco said nervously.
Aleandro took a sip of his drink.
"Her employment file says her name is Rosa Vargas," Marco continued.
"But that identity was created completely from thin air exactly three years ago."
Aleandro set his glass down.
"Who is she really?" Aleandro demanded.
Marco tapped the screen of the tablet and slid it across the polished wood table.
A photograph of a much younger Rosa appeared, standing next to a terrifyingly familiar man.
"Her real name is Rosa Caruso," Marco revealed.
"She is the niece of Don Vincenzo Caruso, our biggest rival in New York."

Aleandro stared at the screen as the truth finally clicked into place.
"Which means the little girl sleeping in my guest room is the missing heir to the Caruso empire."
