Chapter 9 - The False Dawn

Aris backed away from the medical bed, his hands raised in surrender.
Beatrice lunged forward, grabbing the doctor by his collar and slamming him against the wall.
She demanded to know what he had just injected into Enzo.
Aris stammered, tears streaming down his face as he begged for his life.
He confessed that it was a heavy sedative, ordered by the men who controlled his clinic.
Enzo’s eyes rolled back as his body went completely limp on the bed.
Beatrice pressed the barrel of her gun under the doctor’s chin.
She told him he had ten seconds to administer the antidote or she would paint the wall with his brains.
Aris scrambled to a locked cabinet, grabbing a vial of pure adrenaline.
He frantically injected it into Enzo’s chest, praying it would work.
Enzo gasped violently, his eyes snapping open as his heart rate exploded.
Beatrice hauled him off the bed, tossing a heavy coat over his bloodstained shirt.
She demanded Aris tell her where Marco’s men were operating from.
The terrified doctor gave them an address for an abandoned shipyard on the docks.
Beatrice knocked Aris out with the butt of her pistol to ensure he wouldn't make any phone calls.
They stole the doctor’s car and drove toward the harbor under the cover of pouring rain.
The shipyard was heavily guarded, but Beatrice moved through the shadows like a phantom.
She silently eliminated three sentries while Enzo covered her from the perimeter.
They breached the main warehouse, executing a perfectly synchronized assault.
Marco’s soldiers fell one by one, completely overwhelmed by Beatrice’s military precision.
They kicked open the door to the overseer's office, weapons raised.
Marco was sitting at a desk, looking entirely unbothered by the gunfire outside.
Beatrice shot him in the kneecap, dropping him to the floor in agony.
Enzo stood over his traitorous brother, aiming his gun at Marco’s head.
It was finally over; they had won the night and stopped the coup.
Enzo demanded to know where Katerina's squadmate was being held.
Marco spat blood onto the floor and started laughing hysterically.
He looked up at them with a twisted, mocking grin.
He said he never had the squadmate, and he was never the one running this operation.
The office door behind them slowly clicked shut.
A tall woman stepped out of the shadows, clapping her hands slowly.
May you like
It was Beatrice’s squadmate, the woman she thought had died ten years ago.
She smiled coldly, holding up a radio detonator linked directly to the explosive vest she had strapped to Enzo while he was sedated.
