Chapter 6 - The Sins of the Father

The phone went dead with a sharp click.

Beatrice slowly lowered the receiver, her hands trembling for the first time in years.

She turned to face Enzo, but he was already stepping back.

Enzo’s face was a mask of pure horror and absolute rage.

He recognized the name Katerina.

Ten years ago, a black ops sniper named Katerina had assassinated his father in broad daylight.

The killer had never been caught, vanishing into the shadows without a trace.

Enzo drew his pistol with lightning speed and aimed it right at her head.

He screamed, asking if she was the one who pulled the trigger that day.

Beatrice did not raise her weapon, keeping her hands open at her sides.

She told him the truth, admitting she was part of the unit, but she did not take the shot.

Enzo’s hands shook as he pressed the barrel of the gun against her forehead.

He accused her of infiltrating his house to finish off the rest of his family.

Beatrice calmly explained that her assignment ended ten years ago.

She had hidden in his house because it was the last place her former employers would ever look.

She was hiding from the very people who had just kidnapped her old squadmate.

Enzo laughed bitterly, tears of rage welling in his eyes.

He told her he was going to blow her brains out and send her head to Marco.

Beatrice looked at him with deep sorrow, accepting her fate.

She whispered that if he killed her, Marco would slaughter everyone else he loved.

Enzo tightened his finger on the trigger, ready to end it.

Suddenly, a strange hissing sound echoed from the air vents above them.

Beatrice looked up, her combat instincts instantly overriding her guilt.

Thick, greenish smoke began pouring into the small concrete room.

She shouted a warning, realizing Marco had not just called to chat.

He had traced the connection and triggered a trap left long ago.

Enzo coughed violently as the toxic gas hit his lungs.

The metal door to the safehouse slammed shut with an electronic lock.

They were trapped in a poisonous tomb, and the air was rapidly disappearing.
