Chapter 7 - The Intercepted Radio
Thick, suffocating dust filled the hidden servant passage as the explosion violently shook the walls.
Vincent and Clara coughed quietly, pushing Matteo's wheelchair as fast as possible through the narrow, dark tunnel.
The passage descended steeply beneath the main floor, bypassing the heavily guarded grand foyer entirely.
They could hear the frantic shouts of heavily armed mercenaries echoing from the rooms above them.
Vincent led them to a reinforced steel door that opened directly into the sprawling underground parking garage.
He slowly cracked the door open and peered into the cavernous, concrete room illuminated only by emergency red lights.
The garage was completely empty except for three sleek, armored luxury vehicles parked near the exit ramp.
Vincent whispered that they needed to reach his reinforced SUV to smash through the outer security gates.
Before they could step out of the passage, Dominic's voice echoed loudly from the far side of the garage.
Dominic was standing near the exit ramp, casually talking into a military-grade handheld radio.
Clara quickly reached into the dead mercenary's tactical vest she had stripped earlier and pulled out a matching radio receiver.
She plugged a small earpiece into the device and handed it to Vincent so he could hear the encrypted frequency.
Vincent pressed the earpiece into his ear and listened to his most trusted friend plotting his execution.
Dominic was speaking directly to the leader of the Falcone cartel hit squad.
He calmly reported that Vincent had somehow escaped the initial bedroom breach and was currently unaccounted for.
Dominic then provided the exact GPS coordinates of the supposedly secure safe house he had arranged for their escape.
He ordered the Falcones to set up a massive ambush on the coastal highway to annihilate Vincent's vehicle.
Vincent felt a terrifying, icy calm wash over his entire mind as the final piece of the betrayal fell into place.
He pulled his suppressed pistol from his holster and clicked the safety off.

He turned to Clara and told her to keep his son safely hidden in the tunnel no matter what happened next.
Vincent kicked the heavy steel door completely open and marched directly into the garage to confront the traitor.
