Chapter 8 - The Viper's Den

Adrian looked at Clara, seeing his own absolute devastation perfectly mirrored in her tear-filled eyes.
He pulled her up from the floor, promising on his soul that he would bring her daughter back safely.
He strictly ordered Enzo to keep Clara fully secured at a secondary location, completely ignoring her desperate pleas to fight alongside him.
Adrian drove alone through the dark, rain-slicked streets of the city, fully embracing the suicide mission ahead of him.
He arrived at the massive, abandoned shipping warehouse, stepping out into the freezing downpour.
He raised his hands to show he was completely unarmed as dozens of red laser sights painted his chest in the dark.
Heavy metal doors rolled open, revealing the cavernous interior filled with armed guards from both the Moretti and Russo families.
Dominic stood triumphantly at the center of the room, flanked by the brutal, heavily scarred leader of the Russo cartel.
Little Lily was sitting quietly on a wooden crate nearby, looking completely terrified but unharmed.
Dominic laughed, mocking Adrian for actually showing up to die for a pathetic housekeeper's brat.
He threw the power of attorney documents onto a metal barrel and handed Adrian a cheap plastic pen.
Dominic loudly declared to the watching capos that Adrian was voluntarily stepping down due to his severe mental illness.
Adrian walked slowly toward the barrel, his eyes locked entirely on the safety of the small child.
He reached for the pen, accepting that his entire empire was the necessary price for Lily's innocent life.
Just as the pen touched the paper, Lily suddenly pointed her tiny finger directly at Dominic.
Her clear, innocent voice echoed loudly through the silent, cavernous warehouse.
"That is not the man who put the bad drops in the tea," she announced firmly.
Dominic completely froze, his arrogant smile vanishing as pure, unfiltered confusion washed over his face.
Adrian stopped writing, his predatory mind instantly processing the impossible weight of the toddler's words.

If Dominic had not been poisoning the tea, then the real mastermind was still hiding perfectly in the shadows.
Lily moved her tiny finger, pointing directly at the tall, elegant woman standing quietly behind the Russo cartel boss.
