Chapter 1 - The Untouched Cup

Adrian stared at the cold porcelain cup sitting on his massive mahogany desk.

He listened to the soft, steady breathing of the little girl sleeping peacefully on his bed.

For three years, he had believed his brilliant mind was slowly unraveling.

He had accepted the violent tremors in his hands and the suffocating fog in his brain as a tragic medical mystery.

Now, thanks to a three-year-old child in yellow pajamas, the terrifying truth was finally clear.

His own flesh and blood had been slowly and methodically poisoning him.

A soft knock echoed from the heavy oak door.

Adrian did not reach for his hidden weapon, knowing exactly who was on the other side.

Enzo stepped into the dimly lit room, moving with the silent grace of a seasoned predator.

He was the only enforcer in the vast Moretti syndicate who answered exclusively to Adrian.

Enzo’s dark eyes immediately locked onto the sleeping child, and his hand instinctively drifted toward his shoulder holster.

Adrian raised a single finger, silencing his loyal soldier before a single word could be spoken.

He pointed silently toward the untouched cup of tea resting on the polished wood.

Enzo walked over, pulled a small chemical testing kit from his tailored jacket, and extracted a drop of the dark liquid.

The silence in the bedroom was absolutely deafening as they waited for the chemical strip to react.

Suddenly, the bedroom door flew open, revealing Clara, the estate's quiet and unassuming housekeeper.

Her face drained of all color in absolute terror as she saw her daughter asleep on the dangerous mafia boss's bed.

She rushed forward, falling to her knees and tearfully begging Adrian to spare her child for breaking his strict rules.

Adrian gently stepped in front of her, his voice softer and steadier than it had been in years.

He told Clara that she never had to apologize, because her brave little girl had just saved his life.

Before Clara could process his unbelievable words, Enzo cursed sharply under his breath.

The testing strip in his hand had turned a vibrant, toxic shade of purple.

Enzo looked up, his expression hardening into pure, violent rage.

This was not just a sedative designed to keep Adrian awake and disorient his senses.

It was a highly concentrated, synthetic neurotoxin meant to trigger a massive, untraceable heart attack.

And based on the incredibly dark color of the strip, Dominic had doubled the lethal dose tonight to finish the job permanently.
