Chapter 6 - The Dark Descent
The hidden tunnel smelled of damp earth and old copper.
The only light came from the small tactical flashlight mounted on Leo's gun.
Olivia pushed the heavy hospital bed over the uneven stone floor.
Her uniform was covered in blood, sweat, and plaster dust.
She continued to manually breathe for the unconscious mafia boss.
"Where does this tunnel lead?" Olivia asked, gasping for breath.
"It leads to a secure garage located a mile away from the main estate," Leo replied.
"We have an armored ambulance waiting there."
The loyal guard walked at the front of the formation, his rifle raised.
They moved in tense silence for twenty minutes.
The distant sounds of the gun battle above them slowly faded away.
Vincent's skin remained terrifyingly pale, but his pulse was steady.
Olivia realized she was the only thing keeping the most dangerous man in the city alive.
They finally reached a heavy steel security door at the end of the long tunnel.
The guard punched a six-digit code into the electronic keypad.
The heavy door hissed open, revealing a pristine underground garage.
A massive, black armored ambulance sat idling in the center of the concrete room.
"Get the bed to the back doors," Leo ordered.
Olivia and the guard pushed the bed up the heavy metal ramp into the back of the ambulance.
Olivia immediately connected Vincent to the portable, battery-powered ventilator mounted on the wall.
She sighed in relief as the machine took over the breathing process.
Leo walked around to the driver's side door.
He reached for the door handle.
The loyal guard suddenly lowered his rifle and pointed it directly at Leo's back.
"Drop the gun, Leo," the guard said quietly.
Leo froze in his tracks.
He slowly turned his head to look at the man he had trusted with his life.
"You sold us out to the rival family," Leo stated grimly.
The guard smiled and cocked his weapon.

"The new boss sends his regards," the guard replied.
He placed his finger on the trigger to execute the underboss.
