Chapter 10 - The False Victory

The morning sun filtered through the small, dirty windows of the underground clinic.
Vincent Costa was sitting up on the stainless steel table.
He looked battered and exhausted, but the deadly pallor had finally left his skin.
Leo stood by his side, briefing the boss on the chaotic events of the night.
Olivia stood near the doorway, packing her few belongings into a small plastic bag.
She felt a profound sense of relief washing over her tired bones.
She had survived a medical assassination, a violent siege, and a terrifying escape.
Her father's massive gambling debt was officially erased, and she was finally a free woman.
She walked over to the metal table to say her final goodbyes.
"I am leaving now," Olivia said, her voice steady and proud.
Vincent looked at her for a long time.
He took a slow sip of water from a plastic cup.
Olivia felt a sudden, familiar spike of anger at his arrogant silence.
She leaned forward and cursed him violently in rapid, flawless Sicilian.
She told him exactly what she thought of him, his violent empire, and his blood money.
Vincent did not get angry.
A slow, terrifying grin spread across his bruised face.
"Say that again looking right at me," Vincent whispered, his voice dangerously low.
Olivia froze, suddenly realizing the temperature in the room had shifted.
Vincent reached beneath his pillow and pulled out a manila folder.
He tossed it onto the metal table, and glossy photographs spilled out across the surface.
They were recent pictures of Jimmy Hayes meeting secretly with Doctor Brent.
"Your father did not fake his suicide to escape my debt," Vincent stated coldly.
"He faked his death to orchestrate the hostile takeover of my entire syndicate, and he used you as the Trojan horse to get inside my house."
Leo stepped forward and blocked the only exit door.

"You are not going anywhere, Olivia," Vincent said, his eyes turning dead and hollow.
"Because you are the only leverage I have left to destroy him."
