Chapter 7 - The Docks of Despair

Eleanor stared down the barrel of the gun, her mind racing for a way to survive.

Miller stepped closer, his finger tightening slowly on the heavy metal trigger.

"Arthur wants to watch you die on a live video feed," Miller said, pulling out his phone.

He lowered the gun just an inch to press a button on the illuminated screen.

That single moment of distraction was all the little girl needed.

Lily lunged forward with lightning speed and bit down incredibly hard on Miller's wrist.

The detective screamed in agony, his hand spasming and dropping the heavy pistol to the concrete.

Eleanor immediately dove across the wet ground and snatched the weapon.

She rolled onto her back and fired a single shot directly into Miller's kneecap.

The corrupt detective collapsed, howling in pain and clutching his shattered leg.

"That was for twenty years of lies," Eleanor said coldly, kicking the phone into the ocean.

She grabbed Lily's hand and sprinted toward the rows of towering shipping containers.

They searched frantically in the dark until they finally found the numbers four-zero-nine painted in white.

The heavy steel doors of the container were locked with a massive, industrial padlock.

Eleanor aimed the stolen pistol at the lock and fired three rapid shots to shatter the metal mechanism.

She threw the heavy doors open, expecting to finally see her missing daughter.

Instead, the container was completely empty except for a small wooden crate in the center.

Eleanor cautiously approached the crate, her heart sinking with a terrible sense of dread.

She pried the wooden lid open and found a blinking electronic bomb wired to a massive block of plastic explosives.

The digital timer on the front of the bomb read ten seconds.

Arthur had never planned to smuggle Clara out of the country tonight.

He had orchestrated this entire chase just to lure Eleanor into a final, inescapable death trap.
