Chapter 8 - The Halon Trap

Julian aggressively held the dead-man's switch high in the air for Maya to see.
"You really thought you could outsmart a professional cartel fixer?" Julian sneered coldly.
The digital progress bar on the massive screen slowly ticked up to ninety-five percent.
Maya desperately looked around the glowing server room for absolutely any kind of advantage.
Her eyes locked onto a yellow warning sign mounted directly above the heavy metal doors.
The sign read: 'Danger - Halon Gas Fire Suppression System - Evacuate upon alarm.'
Maya knew that Halon gas completely displaced oxygen to instantly kill electrical fires.
It would also violently suffocate any human being trapped inside the sealed room.
Maya slowly raised her hands in the air, pretending to entirely surrender to Julian.
"You win, Julian, just please don't hurt her," Maya pleaded with fake desperation.
She took a slow step backward until her shoulder brushed against the red fire alarm pull station.
She made direct eye contact with Eleanor and took a massive, deep breath of air.
Eleanor instantly understood the silent signal and squeezed her eyes tightly shut.
Maya aggressively ripped the red handle down with all of her remaining strength.
The server room was instantly filled with a deafening, high-pitched mechanical siren.
Heavy steel shutters violently slammed down over the broken glass doorways, sealing the room.
Massive vents in the ceiling violently expelled thick, blinding white Halon gas into the air.
Julian completely panicked as the oxygen was instantly sucked out of his lungs.
He dropped his silver pistol and frantically grabbed his own throat, gasping for breath.
"You insane bitch, you killed us all!" Julian choked out, falling to his knees.
He desperately fought to keep his thumb pressed firmly against the explosive detonator.
But the severe lack of oxygen rapidly shut down his brain functions.
May you like
His eyes rolled entirely into the back of his head as he lost absolute consciousness.
His hand completely relaxed, and the deadly detonator began to slip from his fingers.
