Chapter 8 - The Sins of the Past

I sat completely paralyzed in the glow of the laptop screen as I watched my mother brutally murder my father.

The official police report from ten years ago had ruled his sudden death as a tragic, unexpected heart attack.

My mother had actually killed him to forcefully seize control of his massive corporate empire before he could leave it all to me.

"She is not just a greedy, abusive monster," Mark whispered, absolutely horrified by the grainy black-and-white video.

"Your mother is a cold-blooded killer, and this video is her ultimate death sentence."

I finally understood why David and my mother were working together in this twisted conspiracy.

David had discovered this old security footage and was using it to blackmail my mother into helping him steal Elodie's trust fund.

They were two vicious predators locked in a deadly game, completely willing to sacrifice my innocent daughter to get what they wanted.

I copied the massive video files onto three separate encrypted drives to ensure the evidence could never be destroyed.

"We are sending this directly to the FBI task force that investigates corporate corruption," Mark said, logging into a heavily secured dark web portal.

As Mark began the long, slow process of uploading the files, my burner phone suddenly vibrated on the metal examination table.

I cautiously answered the call, fully expecting to hear David's furious threats.

Instead, my mother's chillingly calm voice echoed softly through the small speaker.

"You really should have minded your own business, Clara," she sighed, sounding completely bored by the situation.

"I just found David bleeding in a miserable apartment, and he was quite eager to tell me everything about your little USB drive."

I gripped the edge of the metal table, refusing to let her intimidate me anymore.

"The FBI is receiving the video right now, mom, and you are going to die in a federal prison," I fired back confidently.

My mother let out a dry, echoing laugh that made my stomach completely drop.

"I highly doubt you will hit the send button, Clara, because I just had a very productive chat with your friend Mark's security system."

A terrifying live video feed suddenly popped up on my phone screen.

It showed heavily armed mercenaries standing right outside the veterinary clinic, holding a massive explosive charge against the front door.
