Chapter 7 - The Desperate Flight

Elias caught Kiora safely before her fragile body could hit the freezing, cold concrete floor.
Jax cursed loudly in frustration, quickly pulling an emergency medical trauma kit from the back of the armored vehicle.
"We cannot safely deliver a newborn baby in a dusty parking garage while heavily armed mercenaries actively hunt us," Jax stated frantically.
"We simply do not have a choice in the matter anymore," Elias replied, resting Kiora gently against a supportive concrete pillar.
Kiora screamed loudly as a massive, entirely agonizing contraction tore ruthlessly through her exhausted body.
"Julian is supposed to be standing right here for this!" Kiora sobbed uncontrollably, tears streaming down her pale face.
Elias placed a highly comforting, deeply calloused hand on her trembling, sweaty shoulder.
"I absolutely promise you will hold this child safely and see your husband again today," Elias swore solemnly.
Suddenly, the heavy steel blast doors of the garage began to grind open loudly with a terrifying screech.
More of Marcus's well-paid reinforcements were rapidly pouring into the underground facility to finish the job.
"Jax, you have to hold them off for as long as possible," Elias commanded, rapidly checking the sterile medical supplies.
Jax nodded grimly, taking secure cover behind the armored vehicle and immediately laying down heavy suppressing fire.
The absolutely deafening echo of automatic gunfire completely drowned out Kiora's heartbreaking screams of pain.
Elias worked with incredible speed, his strong hands perfectly steady despite the absolute, terrifying madness surrounding them.
"Push, Kiora, you absolutely have to push right now!" Elias urged loudly over the deafening noise of the flying bullets.
Kiora gathered every single ounce of strength left in her exhausted body and pushed with all her might.
Another loud explosion rocked the entire garage, sending sharp metal shrapnel flying dangerously close to their exposed position.
Jax cried out in sudden pain, falling backward heavily as a stray bullet grazed his muscular shoulder.
The relentless mercenaries advanced rapidly, quickly closing the distance to the concrete pillar where Kiora lay.
Kiora gave one final, utterly desperate push as the dark world around her seemed to erupt completely in fire and noise.
A sharp, incredibly beautiful cry finally pierced through the chaotic, terrifying noise of the deadly gunfight.
Elias quickly and carefully wrapped the newborn baby boy securely in a sterile silver thermal blanket.
