Chapter 1 - The Marble Trap

The heavy thud of the leather briefcase striking her side echoed through the cavernous courthouse hallway.
She thought Kiora was just an easy target, a vulnerable pregnant woman standing in the way of her twisted corporate ambitions.
Blinded by sheer jealousy and clad in her sharp black designer blazer, the attacker believed she had finally won the ultimate war.
Vanessa watched with a cruel, satisfied smirk as Kiora stumbled backward onto the polished floor, terrified for the unborn child she carried.
But arrogance is a dangerously blinding poison, especially when it makes you completely forget your immediate surroundings.
Vanessa had absolutely no idea that Kiora was never truly walking alone in these treacherous marble halls.
From the dark shadows of the grand staircase, a towering silver-haired protector emerged like a vengeful ghost.
He did not scream for help, and he certainly did not scramble in a mindless, frantic panic.
He simply caught the woman he was sworn to protect and delivered a chilling, lethal promise.
"When you attack the vulnerable, you better pray you know who is watching over their shoulder," the man whispered with a voice like grinding stones.
Vanessa froze in absolute terror as she instantly recognized the deep, gravelly voice of the man standing before her.
It was Elias Sterling, the legendary underworld fixer who had supposedly died in a fiery car crash five years ago.
Elias gently steadied Kiora, his piercing blue eyes never leaving Vanessa's pale, horrified face.
"You made a grave and fatal mistake today, Vanessa," Elias said softly, stepping forward.
Vanessa dropped her heavy briefcase, her manicured hands trembling violently at her sides.
She reached desperately into her blazer pocket to grab her phone and call her security detail, but Elias was blindingly fast.
In a singular blur of motion, a silver tactical blade pinned Vanessa's expensive sleeve securely to the heavy wooden doorframe.
Kiora gasped loudly, clutching her swollen stomach as a sharp, unexpected pain ripped through her lower abdomen.
"We have to leave this building right now, Kiora," Elias commanded, wrapping a highly protective arm around her trembling shoulders.

Before they could take a single step toward the main exit, the heavy oak courtroom doors burst open.
Six heavily armed men wearing tailored suits flooded the hallway, their automatic weapons aimed directly at Elias's chest.
