Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Blitz

Monday morning arrived with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. The financial district of Manhattan was buzzing with the weekend's absolute destruction of the Hawthorne legacy. Hawthorne Enterprises, a monolithic real estate and shipping conglomerate, was in a freefall. Stock prices plummeted by forty percent at the opening bell.

On the fiftieth floor of the Hawthorne skyscraper, the emergency board of directors meeting was a scene of utter chaos. Julian stood at the head of the long obsidian table, shouting over the panicked executives.

"We file for injunctions! We tie her up in litigation for a decade!" Julian slammed his fist on the table. "She cannot just walk in here and—"

The heavy glass doors of the boardroom swung open, cutting him off.

Clara walked in. She was no longer wearing the vintage silk gown. Today, she wore a razor-sharp, bespoke charcoal pinstripe suit that screamed power. Flanked by her lead attorneys and security detail, she moved to the head of the table.

"Excuse me, Julian. You're in my chair," Clara said evenly.

"You have no authority here!" Julian sneered, refusing to move. "This board answers to my father!"

Clara didn't argue. She simply looked at her lead attorney, a silver-haired shark named Harrison. Harrison dropped a massive stack of bound legal documents onto the polished obsidian table. It sounded like a gunshot.

"By the authority of the SEC and the majority debt-holders committee," Harrison announced, his voice booming in the quiet room, "Obsidian Capital has executed a hostile takeover of Hawthorne Enterprises due to gross financial insolvency. Clara Vance is now the majority shareholder and acting CEO. Julian Hawthorne, your employment is terminated, effective immediately."

The board members gasped. Julian turned pale, his arrogant facade completely shattering.

"You're fired, Julian," Clara said, stepping into his space. "I want you out of this building in ten minutes. If you take so much as a paperclip that belongs to this company, I will have you arrested for corporate theft."

Julian looked around the table, silently begging the board members for support. They all averted their eyes. The loyalty of Newport elites only extended as far as their bank accounts, and Julian’s was empty.

Trembling with rage, Julian shoved past Clara. "This isn't over, you bitch. You think you can just take my life? I'll destroy you."

"You can try," Clara whispered. As Julian stormed out, Clara took her seat at the head of the table. She looked at the remaining executives, her eyes cold and calculating. "Now. Let's talk about restructuring."
