Chapter 3 - The Doctor's Confession

Avery slammed her fists against the locked door, but the thick wood absorbed the sound.
She was trapped inside her mother-in-law's study while the party raged on without her.
She scanned the room frantically and noticed the heavy glass window overlooking the estate's rose garden.
Avery picked up a heavy marble bookend and hurled it at the glass.
The window shattered, triggering a silent alarm that she knew would alert security in minutes.
She carefully climbed through the broken frame, cutting her arm on a jagged edge, but ignored the pain.
Avery ran back around to the front terrace, slipping into the party through a side entrance.
She needed to find Dr. Evans, the chief physician who had delivered Leo and signed that fake document.
She spotted the older man sweating nervously near the caviar station.
Avery grabbed him by his expensive lapels and dragged him into the coat room.
"You forged the DNA test for Victoria," Avery hissed, pressing him against the wall.
Dr. Evans trembled, his eyes darting toward the door.
"She threatened to ruin my career and take my medical license, Avery!" he cried.
"I need you to tell the truth to Liam right now, or I will go to the police," she demanded.
The doctor nodded frantically, pulling a silver flash drive from his pocket.
"This has the real, unaltered lab results proving Liam is the father," he whispered.
He reached out to hand her the drive, but suddenly gasped in pain.
May you like
Dr. Evans clutched his chest, dropping the drive as white foam spilled from his lips.
He collapsed completely dead onto the floor, and the coat room door swung open to reveal Victoria smiling.
