Chapter 7 - The Blast Zone

The deafening siren completely drowned out Silas's furious screams.
"You little fool, you killed us all!" Evelyn yelled, diving desperately behind a concrete pillar.
Leo hit the dirty floor just as the first set of incendiary charges detonated near the ceiling.
A massive shower of sparks and flaming debris rained down upon the chaotic standoff.
Silas lost his tight grip on Sarah as a wooden beam crashed down right next to them.
"Mom, run!" Leo screamed over the roaring flames that were quickly devouring the warehouse.
Sarah scrambled to her feet, her hands still tightly bound behind her back.
Arthur tackled a distracted mercenary, snatching a combat knife from the man's tactical belt.
He swiftly cut Sarah's thick zip ties, freeing her hands in a matter of seconds.
"Get to the loading dock, I will hold them off!" Arthur ordered, shoving them toward the exit.
Leo grabbed his mother's hand and pulled her through the thickening, toxic black smoke.
Gunfire erupted wildly behind them as Silas and his men fired blindly through the burning haze.
Leo could hear Arthur shouting fiercely, exchanging rapid gunshots with the deadly mercenaries.
They reached the massive metal loading doors, which were chained shut from the inside.
Leo frantically aimed his pistol at the heavy padlock and pulled the trigger twice.
The padlock shattered, and Leo pushed the heavy doors open with all his remaining strength.
Fresh, cool night air rushed in, giving them a momentary burst of much-needed energy.
They stumbled out onto the quiet street, gasping deeply for oxygen as the warehouse burned.
"Where is grandpa?" Sarah cried out, looking back into the roaring inferno.
Leo turned back, fully prepared to run into the deadly flames to save his grandfather.

Before he could take a single step, Evelyn emerged from the dark smoke.
She was dragging a heavily bleeding, unconscious Arthur by the collar of his ruined coat.
