Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Leo felt his heart completely stop as he stared at his terrified mother.

Sarah was bound tightly with thick zip ties, her tear-stained face pale and bruised.

"Mom!" Leo screamed, stepping recklessly close to the deadly laser tripwire.

"Stay back, Leo!" Sarah cried out, desperately trying to pull away from her captor.

Silas smiled cruelly, his scarred face looking demonic in the dim moonlight filtering through the ceiling.

"It is a family reunion, how wonderfully touching," Silas mocked, tightening his grip on Sarah.

"Let her go, Silas, this is strictly between you and me," Arthur said, stepping in front of Leo.

"Nothing is ever just between us, Arthur," Silas snarled angrily.

"You left me to burn in that bunker in Berlin, and now you will watch your legacy turn to ash."

Silas gestured toward a sleek silver briefcase sitting on a table nearby.

"Open the wheelchair's compartment right now, Arthur, or I blow her brains out," Silas ordered.

Arthur slowly raised his hands and walked carefully over the tripwires toward the table.

The stolen, real wheelchair was sitting right next to the silver briefcase.

Leo watched in pure agony, feeling entirely useless with the heavy gun trembling in his grip.

Arthur reached out and pressed his right thumb against a hidden scanner under the armrest.

A soft click echoed, and a small metal tube popped out of the chair's frame.

Arthur handed the precious encrypted ledger directly to his worst enemy.

"Now let my daughter go," Arthur demanded with fierce authority.

Silas laughed, tossing the metal tube to one of his hidden mercenaries in the shadows.

"You always were too trusting," Silas smirked, raising his pistol toward Arthur's chest.

Suddenly, Evelyn raised her gun, but she did not aim it at Silas.

She aimed it directly at the back of Arthur's head.

"I am sorry, Arthur, but Silas pays significantly better than the government," Evelyn stated coldly.

Leo watched in absolute horror as the woman who saved them revealed her true, treacherous colors.
