Chapter 1 - The First Move

I stepped over the spilled breakfast on the hardwood floor without a second glance.
Behind me, Ethan was still comforting the woman who had just deliberately thrown herself down.
I didn't shout, I didn't cry, and I certainly didn't beg for my husband's attention.
Instead, I walked straight to the front door, grabbed my coat, and left the house.
The cold morning air hit my face, snapping me out of the surreal nightmare I had just woken up to.
The moment I sat in the driver's seat of my car, my hands finally began to shake.
I took a deep breath, gripped the steering wheel, and dialed the number of my attorney.
David answered on the second ring, his voice brisk and professional.
I told him that the marriage was over and that I needed to move immediately.
I explained that I already had the private investigator's photos of Ethan and Chloe from the past three years.
There was a heavy pause on the other end of the line.
David cleared his throat, sounding unusually tense for a seasoned divorce lawyer.
He told me that the photos were the least of my problems right now.
My heart dropped into my stomach as I asked him what he meant.
He explained that he had been monitoring the financial analytics on my marital assets as a precaution.
David revealed that just ten minutes ago, someone had initiated a massive wire transfer.
Every single penny from our joint savings, my family trust, and the investment accounts was being drained.
I stared at the steering wheel in sheer horror, realizing Ethan wasn't just cheating on me.
He was actively trying to destroy my entire life before I even had the chance to leave him.
David urged me to get to the main bank branch downtown before the wire cleared at noon.
I threw the car into drive, my tires screeching against the pavement as I sped away from my own home.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated in the cup holder with an incoming text message.

It was from an unknown number, containing only a single, terrifying photo.
It was a picture of a positive pregnancy test, sitting right on my bathroom sink.
